I have this same exact problem with my Dell c600. Remove the bottom screw that hold the keyboard surrounded by place, they are marked next to an arrow and are probably a size 6 star wrench type (torx) screw. Gently pry up on the keyboard from the bottom right where on earth there are no key. On the bottom of the keyboard are 2 wires that run from the motherboad to the synapsis touch pad, and consequently to the pointer stick. If you don't mind the work involved you can dig within further and unplug this set of wires, or simply cut them about an inch from the baby grand to allow room to reconnect at a later date.
You can also turn to the Synapsis site and download software that will allow you to diable both of these, but I have not found that to be dutiful in stopping the roaming pointer.
