Some conspiracy freaks would suggest that Windows has 'designed obsolescence' - the weak versions seem to be to develop problems as soon as a new text comes out and this would make you buy the strange version. Not that I am suggesting this is really done because it would be completely unjust. You could obtain a free operating system that will identify your hardware correctly, for example FreeBSD - infer about it.
