I enjoy connected the S-Video cable to both my computer and TV. The only means of access I can get the picture of my Desktop on my Tv Is to close my Laptop, which kinda defeat the purpose. Is there a instrument I can get the picture on my TV while my laptop is plain so that I can type and such?
Answer:
try going into your bios to set your settings. change it to use simutanously. plus on a tv the max resolutions is any 800x600 or 1028x768.
on most Dells, there's you need to push Fn+F8, to switch between monitors, or right click on your desktop and click on properties.
at hand is a special function key for this purpose for switching to external display and laptop blind..
Just press Fn with the key(F8)
this works surrounded by 3 modes:-
1 only laptop blind
2 only external display
3 laptop peak + external display
keep pressing the knob combination to swtich the modes
I dont really agree with the answer above. If you are contained by windows turn into display settings and you can make it so that both monitors are used at once. There is a checkbox that say extend windows onto this screen or something approaching that. Also, you can probably get your peak resolution pretty high, but it will look really crappy. Your renew rate will also be shitty. UNLESSS you have an hdtv, next all of this will be fine, but s-video is not the mode to go, If it is hdtv you will want to use an hdmi cable.
